Here at Crowstone we seek to maximise the
potential of all of our pupils, whatever their ability
level. To achieve this, we aim to identify any children with
learning difficulties as early as possible. The Learning
Support Department works closely with all teaching staff,
from Early Years upwards. The teaching staff will identify
any pupils experiencing difficulty with any aspect of
literacy or numeracy. Strategies will be developed and put
in place in the classroom to support the child. Within our
small class groups, the class tracher can give individual
support across the curriculum. Further to this the Learning
Support Department will offer individual, one to one,
instruction to each pupil to develop literacy and numeracy
skills.
We firmly believe that pupils need to read with fluency and
confidence to access the world of learning. We will use
standardised reading and phonic diagnostic tests where
necessary to plan learning programmes for each child. Pupils
will be set targets through Individual Educational Plans. These IEP's will be regularly reviewed and amended. We
promise to listen to the concerns of both the parent and the
child and to act on these concerns.
The Learning Support Staff are also qualified to work with
children diagnosed as dyslexic and we have ample resources
and teaching programmes recommended by Dyslexia Action. Our
students make sound progress and gain in self-esteem as they
succeed in their studies.
We welcome enquiries from parents whose child may have been
diagnosed as having learning issues or from those parents
who feel their child is not progressing sufficiently at
their present school.
