Is your school ISC-accredited?Yes, our school is ISC accredited and is inspected by Ofsted and the ISI.
Entry age and gender?We receive boys and girls between the ages of 2½ and 11.
Briefly, how would you summarise the ethos of the school?Traditional values at Crowstone support and nurture high expectations. Each child is treated as an individual, encouraged to grow in self-esteem, creativity and self-expression within small classes, receiving a firm academic foundation, but at the same time having FUN - within a supportive, structured 'family' environment.
Is there before-school care?Yes, we provide before school care between 8a.m. and 9a.m. Please see the fees structure on the daily cost. We are currently researching participation in the new Government Extended School Programme.
Briefly describe the school's approach to discipline.We aim to instil courtesy, common sense and respect for others in a framework of fair and kindly discipline.
Is the school a selective school?As pupils join at the age of two and a half it is not possible to be a selective school. The Chief Inspector leading the team that inspected the school in January 1999 described the school as 'a highly successful non-selective primary school.'
To which schools do most of your pupils transfer following the 11+?The majority of pupils enter Southend and Westcliff Grammar Schools, please refer to the 'Allocation to Secondary Schools' in the Results section.

Do you accept boarders?No. We are not a boarding school.
How many subjects are taught as part of the curriculum to pupils at the age of seven.Pupils are assessed in National Curriculum Assessment Tests KS1 in English and Maths. We teach all subjects to pupils in Year 2 and follow National Curriculum strategies.
How many subjects are taught as part of the curriculum to pupils at the age of eleven?Pupils are assessed in National Curriculum Assessment Tests KS2 in English, Maths and Science. We teach all subjects to pupils in Year 6 and follow National Curriculum strategies.
What subjects are taught in addition to those expected under the National Curriculum subjects?Timetabled extras include Speech and Drama, French and Gymnastics. ICT is taught as a cross-curricular core subject.
Are all staff appropriately qualified?Yes, please refer to 'The Staff' section.
Are specialist teachers used for individual subjects?Yes, pupils are taught by specialist teachers in addition to their form teachers. Specialist subjects include ICT, Learning Support, French, Sports, Drama and Music.
What sports do you offer?We offer gymnastics, football, athletics, cross-country, netball, swimming and cricket and fencing.
Please outline the facilities available to pupils to practice these sports.A playing field adjacent to the school, playground and sports hall. Local sports halls and swimming pools are extensively utilised.
Is there a daily collective act of worship?Crowstone is a non-denominational school. There is a school Assembly with hymns and prayers on a daily basis.
Do your pupils sit SATs examinations?Yes, at Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Years 3, 4, and 5 also take optional SATS.
Are your SATs results externally assessed by an approved body?Yes.
